Samsung has launched the Samsung Tocco “Lite” in the UK, the latest addition to the Tocco family and one that perhaps takes into account the current economic situation.The new phone gets a 3.2-megapixel camera with smile and face detection, MicroSD (up to 8GB), an FM radio and Samsung DNSe 2.0 music tech as well as the TouchWiz UI and an accelerometer.

The Samsung Tocco Lite is set to go on sale in UK stores mid May, with no operator or pricing info revealed.

Nokia has just announced that they will be releasing their 5800 XpressMusic’s Star Trek edition phone. This new phone will feature everything about Star Trek including four screensavers, three wallpapers and eight brand new ringtones.That content includes four special Star Trek animated screensavers, three Star Trek wallpapers and eight exclusive ringtones, including “Phazer Shot”, “Red Alert” and “Kelvin Communicator”.

In addition, there’s a “special Phazer application” which we assume sadly won’t offer stunning or vaporising abilities.

The Nokia 5800 Star Trek limited edition will be available in a choice of blue, red and black/silver, free on a £25 a month contract with Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile and O2.

Verizon Wireless launches the new Samsung Smooth clamshell mobile phone. The Smooth is an entry-level mobile phone with a 1.9-inch 65k color display, a VGA camera, Bluetooth and an external display.

The Smooth supports CDMA 1X 800/1900mHz networks and is VZ Navigator Capable. The Samsung Smooth is priced at $29.99 with a 2-year contract and after online discount.

Motorola has added a new handset to its W series range with the introduction of W7. This new slider phone is a sports-oriented, water-resistant device that boasts a 2.2-inch QVGA display, a 2MP camera, a secondary camera for video calls, a microSD card slot, music player, FM radio and bound for China Unicom’s upcoming 3G network.

No word yet on pricing, but the W7 should be available in China starting May. Details about the phone’s release in other countries are currently missing.

Samsung officially announced the I7500, its first Android-based smartphone. The I7500 features a 3.2-inch 320×480 AMOLED touchscreen, a 5 Megapixel auto focus camera with LED flash, 8GB internal storage, WiFi and Bluetooth 2.0. You can also expect integrated GPS receiver to be used with Google Maps.

Samsung I7500 supports tri-band HSDPA/HSUPA as well as quad-band GSM/EDGE networks. The phone supports playback of MPEG4, H.263, H.264, WMV as well as MP3, AAC, AAC+, e-AAC+, WMA, RA audio files. It supports microSDHC up to 32GB.

The I7500 runs Google’s Android OS and comes with Google services, including Google Search, Gmail, YouTube, Google Calendar, and Google Talk.
