With a screen that rolls over to the back of the phone, Weiting Chen’s concept Sony phone looks to be a technical wonder. I can’t imagine how one will be able to fabricate a screen that rolls over (i.e. curves) so easily and not crack! Personally i like this idea, with a big screen.

The concept is interesting to say the least; a triple-flip 3G smartphone with a touchscreen, full QWERTY keypad and third function panel that can flip to face downward beneath the keypad and double as a gaming controller. The unit features three independent panels, a 3-inch 400 x 240 resolution touchscreen, a mouse / tracker pad, dual SIM card slots, HSDPA support, quad-band GSM connectivity, GPS, a 3.1-megapixel camera, WiFi and a 532MHz Freescale iMX31 CPU.

I like this Nokia concept phone created by the Finnish designer Heikki Juvonen. The phone’s display is said to be a “futuristic transparent” one, and it seems large enough to support a resolution bigger than the classic QVGA one that Nokia accustomed us to.

Digia today announced the shipping of @Web, their Webkit based UIQ 3 browser. This application, which has been in fairly open beta testing for the last few months, brings full S60, iPhone & Google Android style browsing to the UIQ 3 platform.
@Web is designed to run on touchscreen UIQ 3 phones, so does not support the Motorola Z8 or Z10 handsets (which is a pity), but it’s a great advance over the built-in Opera based browser included in most UIQ 3 phones and will work for those of you with Sony Ericsson P, M, or W series phones. @Web uses an intuitive, almost gesture based interface, which in some ways resembles what Apple have done on the iPhone’s version of Sefari.

Cowon S9 Curve is a chrome-clad device, which is straight away competing with the iPhone in looks and feel. The Cowon S9 Curve has a battery life of up to 3.5-hours, which is equivalent to 5.5-hours charging time on the USB. This will give you 8 hours of video, or 40 hours of audio. It boasts a 3.3-inch 480 x 272-pixel, 16 million color AMOLED touchscreen, audio and video playback of most leading formats, a capacity ranging between 8GB and 32GB, a seriously healthy 40 hours of audio playback from a single charge (or 8 hours of video), Bluetooth 2.0, FM radio, radio recording and dictation.
The launch we will see the 8GB and 16GB of storage models, but a 32GB is on the cards in the not so distant future

If you are interested in phone concepts, i am sure you will love this. If you are in the eBook reader stuff you may be aware of the existence of the Flepia from Fujitsu (2007) with its Color Screen, and while this product is FAR from being a success, here you are for your pleasure some nice Hi-Res shot of the 2 devices.

The “Ply” concept model is apparently inspired by plywood in that it has multiple layers for the phone’s different functions. It also has a touchscreen that fills the entire device. These functions are varied and definitely interesting for a phone. Things like a pico-projector, analog clock with a minute hand that swings outside of the body of the phone and a printer are included.

Siemens has recently introduced new green phone concepts known as the “Gigaset Eco Visions”, “Leaf” and “Solar”. These green phones are made of recyclable raw materials, such as eco-plastic and liquid wood. Now these aren’t only green in color, but they’re also green because they only require some sunlight for their power source.
