 HTC MAX 4G officially announced

HTC MAX 4G officially announced, world’s first GSM / WiMAX phone. The MAX 4G is the production version of the T8290 and shares the 3.8-inch, 800×480 screen of the Touch HD but adds a WiMAX connection for 4G-level Internet access in the multi-megabit range. A GSM connection is still built in to make conventional phone calls. The MAX 4G otherwise carries the best features of HTC’s Touch line and brings a five-megapixel camera, GPS and Wi-Fi. Unlike the HD, though, the MAX switches from removable storage to a built-in 8GB of storage.

HTC MAX 4G officially announced

It’ll be launching on Scartel’s Yota network in Russia, and if you have friends cool enough to have a MAX 4G of their own, calls between the two of y’all will automatically be routed over the WiMAX airwaves using VoIP. A launch date hasn’t been announced, but unless you’re in Russia, there’s probably not much point in even bothering to lust after this one.

The HTC Rose or S740 has been approved by the FCC. The Rose is one of the last handsets made by HTC. It’s Windows Mobile handset like all recent HTC devices, excepting the Dream of course. The rose comes with a hybrid keybad/keyboard, GPS, WiFi and a 3.2 megapixel camera. Think of it like a modified HTC Touch. Add a slide-out full keyboard and a keypad and you get the Rose. You’d also have to remove the touchscreen to get a Rose. That last part you might not like!

The Rose is ready to be sold in the USA. All it needs now is some 3G support for the US since it only has quad-band (850/900/1800/1900Mhz) GSM/EDGE for now.

HTC said it estimates T-Mobile will sell between 400,000 and 500,000 G1 handsets, with its Android platform developed by Google, before the end of 2008. According to a Wednesday report, the smartphone‘s exclusive US carrier, T-Mobile, will order between 1.5 and 2 million units in total, sales of which are estimated to add NT$7 billion (the equivalent of about $218 million) to HTC’s fourth quarter revenue or NT$18 billion (about $566 million) to the company’s bottom line in 2009.

The smartphone will compete with Apple’s iPhone, Samsung’s Omnia and HTC’s own Diamond, though promises to bring an easier interface and access to network application services from Google, made up of Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube and GoogleTalk as a unique online shopping capability via the Android Market.

According to John Wang, CMO, High Tech Computer (HTC), who added in saying the company will continue to simultaneously develop smartphones based on the two platforms.

The key element is innovation, said Wang, noting that the T-Mobile G1 is being rolled by combining Google’s Internet services, HTC’s proven capability in smartphone manufacturing, and T-Mobile’s telecom network resources.

While the introduction of Android handsets helps HTC expand its product mix, Windows Mobile-based smartphones will continue to be the most important market for HTC, Wang stated.
