NTT DoCoMo made official a mobile phone prototype made with the surplus wood of trees culled during thinning operations to maintain healthy forests.Resistance to water, the prototype called TOUCH WOOD.

The Telus HTC Touch Pro2 is now available at Best Buy for CAD$249.99 (US$230). In case you didn’t know, the smartphone features a sliding QWERTY keyboard, a 3.2MP shooter with auto-focus, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, a microSD (HC) card slot, an FM radio with RDS and a 528Mhz Qualcomm CPU.

Lenovo releases in China the new X1 mobile phone with a touchscreen display.The Lenovo X1 also supports GPS and offers a MicroSD slot for memory expansion. Overall dimensions closely match the iPhone, measuring 115 mm in length and 12.5 mm thick, while offering a slightly narrower width of 55 mm.The slide-style X1 features Lenovo’s Touch Dream UI. It supports Tri-band GSM EDGE networks. It is priced at 3280 Chinese Yuan.

Sony Ericsson is going to reveal a special edition of the W595.The new W595 Cosmopolitan Flower Edition is basically W595 in Cosmopolitan White colour plus red flowers on the front and back. The new W595 Cosmopolitan Flower Edition will be available in selected countries of Western Europe from March 2009.

New color option are available for the new Sony Ericsson W395 and C903 Cyber-Shot.The C903 Cyber-shot will be available in selected markets from Q2 in the colours Lacquer Black, Techno White and Glamour Red. W395 walkman phone will be available this quarter in Dusky Grey and Blush Titanium.

Samsung is going to launch the new B5702 dual SIM mobile phone targeted at business users. The B5702 features a QVGA color LCD display, and two LEDs above the screen telling you which SIM is in use.

Motorola fans can settle on the fact that these handsets are as sure as the sun’s setting in the afternoon, and that they’re all scheduled for release some time in 2009 under Verizon’s network. The red-hot QWERTY Rush 2, pictured below, is said to be the first one of these that will come out, during Q1 of 2009.The other two handsets on display are the Motorola Calgary (the silver one with a QWERTY keyboard), and the Motorola Inferno (the one that looks like a MOTO MING).
